Africa map grey, M (20"p2p, 27"s2h, 32"c2c)

£34.00

As a kid I loved going to my local library and looking at maps. I’d study the maps for ages and think about all the exotic and distant places. I loved remembering capital cities, rivers, mountain ranges and deserts. I then got excited by different countries flags and histories. Of all the maps I loved there was something that drew me to Africa. As a kid you didn’t hear anything positive about Africa. It still felt like the dark continent. The news was dominated by South Africa and the famine in Ethiopia. As I grew up I started to read more about the different countries and the histories. I learnt how vibrant Africa was, how the early civilisations were so advanced, how noble and proud the people were. This fascination got me into reading the modern literature, looking at the art and then the music. WOW the music. I suppose most of the music I listen to has its origins in Africa. Whatever music you are listening to now, it’s origins are probably from African sounds and rhythms. Then a few years ago I discovered labels that specialised in releasing African music and it became a bit of an obsession. I fell in love with gqom music and bought anything Analog Africa released. So when I found a fab map of Africa I had to print it up.

Handprinted on a preloved grey sweatshirt, with black eco ink.

Measures: 20” pit to pit, 27” shoulder to hem and 32” collar to cuff.
