Atletico Nacional '91/92, teal, XL/XXL (25"p2p, 30"s2h, 32"c2c)

£34.00

I loved watching Colombia in the 1990 World Cup. I didn’t know many of the players so it was amazing watching their style playing with freedom and exuberance. I was immediately attracted to two players Carlos Valderrama (El Pibe) the original keeper sweeper Rene Higuita (El Loco). As football had become cynical and pragmatic Colombia still played with a bit of naivety they took risks and wanted to entertain. I started reading a lot about South American football and the book The Beautiful Game by Chris Taylor has a wonderful chapter on Colombian football. Many of the bigger teams were bankrolled by cartels, Atletico Nacional of Medellin was the team of Pablo Escobar. In 1989 they became the first Colombian team to win the Copa Libertadores and they won it again in 2016. I love the kit they wore in the 1991/92 season with the sam airline as sponsor and with a nice big badge. El Loco was the maverick keeper for Atletico Nacional and there is a fantastic documentary on Netflix about him.

Hand screen printed on a preloved vintage teal sweatshirt, with gold eco ink.

Measures: 25” pit to pit, 30” shoulder to hem and 32” collar to cuff.
