Club Alianza Lima, blue, XL 23.5p2p, 28s2h, 34c2c

£34.00

As a kid you grew up knowing all about the Munich Air Disaster and the tragedy of so much talent and potential being lost. I remember Sir Bobby saying Duncan Edwards would have gone on to be the greatest English footballer ever and probably would have captained  England in 1966. Other countries have suffered their own football team tragedies. 18 members of the Zambian national team were killed in 1994 on a flight to Senegal for a World Cup qualifier. Club Alianza Lima suffered a similarly awful fate in 1987 when the plane carrying the team home after a match crashed into the sea killing all members of the squad. At the time they were top of the Primera Division but after fielding youth players and loaned players (the greatest ever Peruvian player Teofilo Cubillas came out of retirement) they finished second. Like Manchester United it took a good few years for Club Alianza Lima to become serious contenders for titles. Infact it was in 1997 when they won their first championship in 18 years. Reading about the club and its history I found a picture of the team from 1991with a great shirt featuring the Popular Bank sponsorship but also with the PB letters looking like the manufacturer. Interesting. Anyway I printed some up because I like it so much.

Handprinted on a preloved blue sweatshirt, with red eco ink.

Measures: 23.5” pit to pit, 28” shoulder to hem and 34” collar to cuff.
