£44.00

Toyko 1976 Yoshio Kyoto wins the first ever ‘Are You The Walrus’ programme. It was Japanese TVs search for Japans No.1 Beatles fan. The prize a 2 week trip to Liverpool. Yoshio visited the Cavern Club, Penny Lane, Strawberry Fields, Lark Lane all that stuff. On the Saturday he was invited to go and see Liverpool play at Anfield and on the following Wednesday he saw Everton at Goodison. He was hooked on football. He couldn’t believe the atmosphere, the singing, the banter which he couldn’t quite understand. He fell in love with Kevin Keegan. One afternoon Yoshio was walking down Smithdown Road, L18 and was curious about a shop called Bobs Tackle Shop. He walked in and introduced himself. From that very moment Bob and Yoshio became pals. Bob took Yoshio fishing and he had a ball.  On returning to Toyko, Yoshio was determined he wanted to create his own football team to become the Liverpool of Japan. He borrowed heavily to realise his dream and in 1978 ISHIKARI WARRIORS SC were born. He signed a major kit deal with Atlas Soccer who were the new kids on the block or the disruptors of Japanese football sportswear. He signed some good players. He didn’t have time to secure a sponsor so he thought it would be fun to use Bob’s Tackle Shop on Smithdown Road, Liverpool L18 as the sponsor as a kind of tribute. Unfortunately for Yoshio, Japans economy suddenly nosedived and the banks called in his loans. ISHIKARI WARRIORS SC never played a competitive match. There are no records of them. Heartbroken Yoshio opened a pub like those in Liverpool called The Cock and Bull.

Handprinted on a vintage preloved green flecked sweatshirt, with black ink.

Measures: 20” pit to pit, 26” shoulder to hem and 29” collar to cuff.
