Mekong Allstars FC, black, XXL (25"p2p,29"s2h,36"c2c)

£44.00

Some people say it was 1979, others say it was 1981 when the mighty FC Zambese Maradeurs toured South East Asia. Sadly there are no records of the tour. The date doesn’t matter. What matters was a self made businessman who happened to own the largest estate of concrete mixers in Laos was intrigued and attended a match. He couldn’t believe his eyes. He instantly fell in love with football and the FCZM style.  He got thinking. Why not build his own team.  A dream was born. Using his wealth from the concrete mixers he built Mekong Allstars FC. He poached all the best players in the area to the chagrin of other owners and even started an academy. He employed a maverick manager who played a unique fluid and open style similar to the Dutch total football but with a local flavour. He even started his own sports brand Saturn Soccer which quickly established itself as the premium kit manufacturer in the region. From its birth Mekong Allstars FC won 4 back to back league titles and revolutionised football in the region. Sadly in the late 1980s/early 1990s a combination of the rise of globalisation (cheaper concrete mixers from other markets flooding the area) and diversification (he took his eye off the ball of the concrete mixing sector and didn’t innovate) he lost everything. Unable to fund Mekong Allstars FC they went into liquidation. At least there are the memories and the businessman still had his faith he was a born again religious believer.

Handprinted on a preloved vintage black sweatshirt, with gold ink front and reverse. Measures: 25” pit to pit, 29” shoulder to hem and 36” collar to cuff.
